Born in Melbourne, Florida, and raised in New England, Mr. D'Escoubet has lived for the past 13 years in Miami, where he currently resides with his two children.
Mr. D'Escoubet is fully bilingual (Spanish and English) and committed to his community. He is the founding partner of D'Escoubet Law, P.L.
Jean-Michel received his Juris Doctorate degree from The University of Miami School of Law in 2005. While at the University of Miami, Mr. D'Escoubet was a member
of the Federalist Society. He was also a member of the Student Bar Association and the Cuban-American Bar Association, and he served
as Justice of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity prior to transferring to UM.
Mr. D'Escoubet has years of experience defending criminally accused clients who have found themselves in the most difficult times of their life. His trial
skills come from years of defending and prosecuting complex criminal cases.
Mr. D'Escoubet was a Felony Division Chief at the Miami-Dade County State Attorney's Office. As a Felony Division Chief he had the dual
role of prosecuting those accused of murder while supervising and training attorneys and student interns. He was also a member of the Traffic Homicide Unit
where he received the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Prosecution Award of Honor in 2010 and 2011.
In addition to those responsibilities, Mr. D'Escoubet worked with the Gang Prosecution and Organized Crime Prosecution Units. Mr. D'Escoubet was involved
in the investigation and jury trials of several high-profile media cases, including the murder of a student at Coral Gables Senior High School and a
gang-related murder at a South Beach nightclub.
After nearly eight years, Mr. D'Escoubet left the Miami-Dade State Attorney's office and founded D'Escoubet Law, P.L., concentrating his practice in the area
of white-collar criminal defense and drug-trafficking defense in both the State and Federal Courts. Mr. D'Escoubet has successfully defended those charged
with trafficking crimes, including the dismissal of charges prior to trial.
Mr. D'Escoubet began his legal career after graduating law school, working as a prosecutor in the Miami-Dade County State Attorney's Office. Jean-Michel was
assigned to the County Court division where he prosecuted DUI and other misdemeanor cases for nearly a year. After being promoted to the Juvenile Division
for a short time, he was quickly promoted to the Felony Division where he gained experience trying cases ranging from property crimes to the most violent
of armed and sexual crimes.
In addition to criminal law, Mr. D'Escoubet practices in the area of Family and Matrimonial Law to help families cope and resolve
any number of issues difficult for families, such as separation, divorce, child custody disputes, paternity, and prenuptial matters.
Mr. D'Escoubet continues to practice in all areas of criminal defense in state and federal court, including but not limited to drug trafficking,
fraud, DUI, as well as violent crimes including murder, manslaughter, and both domestic and non-domestic felony assault and battery.
